Luke 1:31 (NIV)

“You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.”

Reflection

In this verse, the angel Gabriel is speaking to Mary and telling her the plans that the Lord has for her. Mary was practically a kid when this angel comes and tells her that she is going to have a baby and should name him Jesus. If we were to put ourselves in Mary’s shoes, we would be pretty scared. There isn’t much information given about Mary’s pregnancy, but we can assume that she was probably a little afraid of her future.

It’s probably safe to say that this wasn’t the plan that Mary had envisioned for her life, but God had greater plans than she ever could have imagined. Here we see that God doesn’t half-way reveal His plans to her and say, “See ya, you’re on your own for the rest.” God had a plan for Mary’s life. He revealed that to her and stuck by her through those plans. Often in our own lives, we think that we aren’t prepared or our plans aren’t going our way. If we listen and trust in the Lord, He will do far greater things with our lives than we have planned.

Prayer

Lord, I praise you and thank you for having a plan for my life. Thank you Lord, for walking with me and never leaving me to go through the hard things on my own. Give me peace and an understanding of what you have in store for my life. Lord, use me in a big way and help me to step aside so that you can be glorified. Thank you for Jesus and for using Mary in a way that teaches me obedience and trust in you. Amen.
